Well ’tis the season! How about a couple of healthy drinks to help celebrate the busy month of December?
Try this wonderful spiced drink for those cold evenings; share with friends.
SPICED APPLE CIDER
4 cups organic apple juice concentrate
4 cups pure water or to taste
4 pieces organic orange zest, about 2 each
3 cinnamon sticks
6 allspice berries or anise stars
6 whole cloves
1 slice peeled ginger
1. Heat juice over medium heat.
2. Add remaining ingredients, reduce heat and simmer 20 30 minutes. Do not boil.
3. Strain and serve.
I use the organic apple juice concentrate sometimes available in gallon glass jugs at health food stores. You may increase the spices.
And how about a healthy eggnog? Remember if you are going to eat raw eggs, they MUST be organic. To read my article titled “Will the REAL Egg please stand up?” you may download book three of What Your Doctor Doesn’t Tell You About Foods” on my website www.healingwithnutrition.ca for $7.99. A great Christmas gift, this 222 page book contains 18 articles originally published in Wholife, for example, Carbohydrates: The Real Story; The Mighty Chia Seed; Fermenting foods; the Great Milk Debate; What’s the Scoop on Chocolate, and more!
This year I plan to try using homemade coconut milk or a thicker version of coconut cream for a truly wonderful taste treat.
6 organic eggs
3 cups goat milk, or organic milk
8 tbsp. coconut sugar (a brown color, and will make the drink a darker color)
3 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
1. Beat eggs in a large bowl with electric beater.
2. Add milk and combine.
3. Add coconut sugar and combine.
4. Continue beating until mixture thickens slightly.
5. Add vanilla and spices and combine.
6. Place in a covered glass jar and refrigerate for at least 3 hours until well chilled.
Note; You may add some Christmas Cheer if you desire.
